OUR HERITAGE

It was 1949 when Houston gained its first television station KLEE -- now KPRC; its first freeway - the Gulf; and a nationally recognized hotel - the Shamrock.  The same year, a new community educational resource came into being as the original Lutheran High School opened its doors at the southern end of the then new Gulf freeway - now the intersection of the Gulf Freeway and the 610 loop.  The landscape has changed over the last 58 years - the Gulf Freeway has been under continuous construction and reconstruction - the 610 Loop, Beltway 8 and now the Grand Parkway.

Keeping pace with Houston, during the 1950s land was purchased on the "far north side of Houston" in the suburban Garden Oaks District - now just outside the North 610 Loop at Shepherd.   However, it wasn’t until 1980 that the dream of a sister school became a reality in Lutheran High North (LHN).

In 1982 the "original" Lutheran High School relocated ½ mile south onto Loop 610 and became Lutheran High South.  Then again, responding to Houston’s changing landscape, in 1998 the campus moved south along the Gulf Freeway to its current location just outside Beltway 8 becoming Lutheran South Academy (LSA), adding both a Lower (Pre-K3 - 5) and Middle (6,7,8) school programs in response to community needs.

The pioneering spirit of the 1940s that resulted in the original Lutheran High School and action oriented foresight in the 1950s that led to Lutheran High North surfaced again in 2002 as LEAH looked to the rapidly developing Westside of Houston.  Immediately it became obvious that the new Grand Parkway between US 59 and Interstate 10 was the central axis of current and future Westside growth.  A large tract of land was purchased just to the west and south of the recently completed West Park Tollway and the Grand Parkway interchange providing easy access from all directions.

What hasn’t changed is that the Lutheran Education Association of Houston continues to prepare students for today, tomorrow and eternity.
